CILIATES:
Image 1: Zoothamnium sp
Image 2: Surface of image 1 using 1.4NA SuperAPO x100 objective.
This image reveals that the surface is covered by symbiotic bacilli
with the following dimensions 0.4 micron x 1.2- 1.5 micron with a
gap of 0.23 micron.
Image 3: Colony of Folliculinids on Zostera weed from Coobowie Marine Aquatic Reserve. Each trophont lives in a secreted home or Lorica consisting mainly of chitin, into which it contracts if disturbed. The extended peristomal wings are covered with membranella which create currents to capture food. Low power (x20) view using a stereo-microscope.
